Green, according to the Irish legend, attracts fairies and help crops. The seamróg (meaning summer plant) or Shamrock as we know it symbolises the birth of springtime. It became an emblem of rebellion and the "wearing of the green" was punishable...death by hanging put a dampers on things for a while .
Well, whatever, if you're Anita Roddick, want to attract some fairies, help the garden grow or just have a hoot. Happy St Patrick's Day, I'm sure there will be a few sore heads in the morning.....Keep the faith!
