Heidi.......and other childhood memories

Back in the late 60's your Uncle Noel from Ireland turned up on the doorstep with an unruly beard, long hair, street-sweeping flares and flowers on his shirt. He entertained the family each evening playing rebel songs on an old twelve-string guitar. Upon his feet he proudly wore a pair of the biggest, brownest, buckled and boxiest sandles you had ever seen. You thought he was completely mad........it was the middle of winter! After decades of fashion obscurity the Birkenstock has quietly reappeared as an essential must-have for guys and girls. You're more likely to see them in a New York boutique than Glastonbury. Thanks to Heidi Klum the latest collection is a touch more glitzy than Uncle Noel's, but don't despair - you can still pick up a brand new pair of the old style Classics. Join the revolution...

Some Mothers

Actress Liv Tyler tells Cosmopolitan magazine, "It's so hard to lose your baby weight! Everyone makes it look like it just drops off and everyone in magazines is so skinny three weeks later, I don't know one woman who woke up three weeks later and was a rail." We're sure Milo will thank her for it in the years to come. J K Rowling............"achieve something in life, in a local café during your daughter's nap!" Just remember, many mums think their son has a divine right to be king, but only Queen Elizabeth has the documentation to back it up. Spare a thought and have a great day!

London Glamour:oke!

Those sing-along TV shows are getting worse. It’s not so much that the desperate never-have-been contestants can’t sing but more the outfits they sport. The words ‘showbiz’ and ‘Primark’ clearly don’t mix. But at Glamour:oke, there isn’t a stitch of shiny, flab-grabbing, B.O.-inducing acrylic in sight. Run by club supremo Charlotte Cutler and TV personality Nick Ede, this karaoke requires your chicest outfit. Whether you fancy a James Blunt lullaby or a full-on Whitney warbler, there’s an eclectic mix of songs to choose from — and some classic celebrity guest judges to tell you how you’re doing. (Can you beat Russell Grant and Anne Diamond for sheer glamour?) Don’t worry if your singing isn’t up to Eurovision standards, after copious cocktails you’ll be ready to grab the diamond-encrusted mic and do your thing. And, no matter how much you drink, you’ll still look better than any trollop on the telly. Glamour:oke at Sin (144 Charging Cross Road) from 7.30pm. The next night is Thursday 6th April. R.S.V.P. to Glamour:oke.

Green Scene

Announced today...................French buying of the green. L'Oreal, the French cosmetic giant has announced that it is to buy The Body Shop for 940 million euros. Your lipstick may never be tested on animals again. Green, according to the Irish legend, attracts fairies and help crops. The seamróg (meaning summer plant) or Shamrock as we know it symbolises the birth of springtime. It became an emblem of rebellion and the "wearing of the green" was punishable...death by hanging put a dampers on things for a while . Well, whatever, if you're Anita Roddick, want to attract some fairies, help the garden grow or just have a hoot. Happy St Patrick's Day, I'm sure there will be a few sore heads in the morning.....Keep the faith!
